Jesus says "I am the gate for the sheep." As both sheep and shepherds, our focus should be on the gate - Jesus himself - so that he might show us how to follow and lead.

Gates are often used in our modern society to keep others out. When Jesus says "I am the (sheep) gate", he speaks not as a barrier to God, but as the way to abundant life. John 10:1-10.

The Gospel of John begins with light. In the story of the healing of the blind man from John 9, Jesus notices the blind man, just as he notices us. When Jesus is the light of the world, our mission is to do the works of God by shining that light of Christ into the world.
